SYNOPSIS:

Beau McIntyre knew the party had to end sometime – he just didn’t realise it would end so soon. After receiving a frantic phone call from his younger brother, Beau is forced to face his responsibilities and return to the small country town and the farm he grew up on.

After finding her fiancé in bed with another woman, Payton packs up her life and her livelihood and escapes her personal torment by fleeing to the country. Settling in a small town, she works her butt off to establish her bakery and turn her dream into everything she ever wanted.

The moment Beau meets the voluptuous Payton, there's an instant spark and he quickly decides that despite the drama facing his family, Payton could be the one good thing in his life. The only problem is that Payton clearly has no interest in anything more than a night or two of uninhibited passion.

Will Beau be able to convince Payton to give him a chance of something more, by letting go of her painful past?

OUR OPINION:

So this is my first experience reading a Rebecca Barber book and I have to say...I'm intrigued.

Taking Charge is book one in the Meet the McIntyres series.  I am guessing the series will all be standalones but I can tell you she does reference characters from some previous books...which I love and will now have to go back and check those out as well.

This has the potential to be a 5 book series...4 brothers and one sister, so getting invested will be super easy for me.  I am a huge fan of series.

Payton was super likable for me.  I mean she bakes and sells coffee.  No brainer there.  She is emotionally off limits and to watch her warm up and become attached to people again is really something to watch...err read.

And Beau.  I mean come on.  Playboy turned responsible that is all alpha and demanding and totally taken with his leading lady?  Love, Love, Love!

The secondary characters in this story promise to be equally fantastic.  The end of the book leaves you ready for book two with a chapter highlighting who may find their HEA next.  And so I'll just need that ASAP?

I wasn't disappointed in this read at all.  The only thing I would have liked a little more is maybe some mystery and a little more emotion pulling.  Overall this was a great story line with fun characters and the promise of more.  I'm in!

I am giving Taking Charge 4 stars.
