Our Review

I am really enjoying the Iron Orchids series and this new addition, Often, was no exception!

Often is the story of Leo and Ian! Leo is more of a tomboy who lives life on the edge and her way. Totally loved that about her. She is a strong woman under all the circumstances that she faces. She is tough, not taking any crap from anyone and yet she is soft when it comes to her heart. She was a well rounded character.

Ian was equally amazing. He is strong. When it came to Leo's drama he was such a good man! Women readers will love that about him! Not only strong but determined!

What is great about this series is that its not just girl getting her man. There is adequate drama from beginning to end that keeps your attention and trying to figure out all the answers. Even when I was sure that I knew what was happening...I did not.

This book will be great for readers who love a second chance romance or those that love a little suspense in their stories!

I am giving Often 4 stars!

“Listen, babe—”

She holds up her hand like a stop sign and for some reason, having her interrupt doesn’t bother me.

“Did you just babe me?” Her question is all sass.

“Sure did, sweetheart. Call ‘em like I see ‘em. Don’t pretend to be offended. We both know why you’re over here talking to me.”

Her face turns an adorable shade of pink. “First, stop with the nicknames. Second, are you for real? What the hell is wrong with you?”

“I don’t see any issue. You’re the one disrupting my quiet evening.”

“What the… I mean, seriously? I want to sit down and this is the only available spot. You honestly think I came over here to hit on you?”

Her ridiculous question doesn’t deserve a response. My glare matches hers as I silently explain my opinion on the matter. My expression must tell her everything she needs to know.

“Wow, you’re an asshole.”

“You’re the third woman to call me that tonight. Be careful, I might get a complex.”

“Aw, poor baby. I’d hate to dent your fragile ego,” she snips with a curl in her lip.

“There’s nothing fragile about me. Don’t worry. I’m hard and solid. Wanna feel?” I ask and pat my abs.

She nods to my hands. “No, thanks. I’d hate for you to rub off on me.”

“Does the grease under my nails bother you? Princess is afraid of getting a little dirty?”

“Do you get a rise out of being mean?”

I lean against the bar and cross my arms. “I don’t get many complaints. You’re not from around here, so I’ll fill you in—the ladies love me.”

“Pretty sure I saw Barbie McCleveage storm off after chatting with you. She didn’t look too satisfied.”

“Now who’s using nicknames? Jealous much?”

“Hardly,” she huffs.

I smirk before checking out her rack, being extremely obvious about it. Pushing her buttons takes away the tension from earlier, replacing it with a surprising ease. Fighting with her is the most nonsexual fun I’ve had with a woman in a long time. Wonder how she’d react if I called her ma’am.

“All right, all right. You’ve broken me down. I was set on not having any company tonight, but for you, I’ll make an exception. If you insist on standing here, blabbing away, I’ve got far better uses for that luscious mouth. My place isn’t too far away,” I suggest while waggling my brows. My behavior is over the top, but what can I say? She’s bringing out the best in me.

Her lips part in shock. This stranger just stares at me, and I’m sure she’s about to turn away… or slap me. Either way, mission accomplished.

But this chick is full of surprises.

“Admit it, you were scared when you first saw me, but when you
woke up, I was wearing the glasses. Your opinion changed. You thought
I was smart. Most people trust someone they perceive as intelligent…and relatively harmless.”

“You mean nerdy. You wear glasses so people think you’re smart. Why
is it you have to convince anyone of that?”

“I’ll admit I’m not a patient person. I don’t want to have to continually
convince people I know what I’m doing. I…I did a lot of…convincing…when I was a kid. I won’t do it again. You asked who I was earlier. I’m a computer expert.”

Okay. “But not a normal techy.” Normal techies didn’t have underground
hidey-holes. “So, what is it? Information officer for the military. Hacker
for the CIA. What?” She’d feel a lot better if she knew he’d gone through
some security clearance.

“You watch too much TV.”

“I don’t watch any television. Except for The Bachelor, and that’s purely
for business.” That was her story and she was sticking to it. “And who else
but the government would fund a place like this?”

He sighed like a man not used to people questioning him. “I work for
an agency that specializes in search and recover. Every team member has
a role. I’m the computer guy. Mostly, our job is to find…things.”

“Judging from the hardware out there, I’d say they don’t hire you to
find their missing pet.” Of that she was certain.

“No.”

“And isn’t it the police’s job to find…things?”

“Sometimes,” he said.

“You with the police?” How much could she trust him?

“You’re asking too many questions.”

“Put yourself in my shoes.”

He got up and went into the kitchen. “How about some food? All you
had was soup, and I haven’t eaten since this morning.”

Why didn’t he want to answer her? “Avoiding my questions when you’re
stuck with me for who knows how long isn’t going to work.”

“I’m not avoiding. I’m hungry.” He opened a cupboard and pulled out
a large can. “Chili? It says right on the can, fit for kings.”

“Sure,” she said, more to stay agreeable than actually looking forward to
canned chili. She joined him. “You don’t work with the police. Do you work
against them?” Although even to herself that sounded like a stupid question,
because if he did—if what they did was illegal—he wouldn’t tell her.

OUR REVIEW:

You have my attention Ms. Farago.

A Necessary Deception, for me, took romantic suspense to a new level. Perfectly woven together the romance and suspense were in perfect harmony. Readers who prefer a more suspense to romance ratio are going to love this story and I suspect much of Lucy Farago's writing.

This would be the first book by this author that I have read and I am truly intrigued. Once my review schedule opens up, going back to read book one is on my to do list, and probably many other stories of hers.

Reading A Necessary Deception was like being on an adventure. With it's quick story line and being full of action, I was quickly wrapped up in this story and was unable to put it down until the end. There was no good stopping point for me or my sanity...so I just kept reading. I didn't want to stop to be honest. I needed all the answers!

The chemistry between Taylor and Monty was on point. The had a rapport that was fun to read, many times making me laugh. Taylor is a strong woman which makes her fun for me to read and Monty was definitely more than meets the eye. *fans self* Women will LOVE him!

Overall, this was a great read for me, making me laugh, keeping my attention and making me swoon a little from page one to done.

I am giving A Necessary Deception 5 stars.
